The question is two fold so my answer will be as well. First off as to whether AI generated songs are real music of course they are. By definition music is the art of arranging sounds in time through elements like melody, rhythm, harmony, and tone color to express emotions and ideas. How that arrangement is achieved or the ideas conveyed doesn't change the fact that the content generated fits the definition perfectly.
As for the second part does it belong in streaming platforms? I believe yes but only if the platform is actively making people aware of the fact AI has been used and the customers of said platform are aware that's what they're buying/listening to. Some people can't make music but have great song ideas. How they achieve the song doesn't make there music less valid. It just makes them less talented.
Maybe my opponent thinks if it sounds like a song, it belongs there. But to me, music needs a person behind it, making choices and feeling something. An algorithm just copies patterns, so it feels empty and kind of fake, not real music.
While I agree with my opponent that ai music often feels empty and fake. Unfortunately for them our opinion doesn't change the fact that music, wether written by a man or an ai, is music and it f
alls well within the definition. Also human musicians, which I've written music nearly 20 years, have been following certain patterns for years. Why can't ai do the same?
The practical problem is platforms getting flooded with endless AI tracks, so actual people trying to get heard get buried and paid less. My opponent makes a fair point about labeling, and I am not sure how to argue back. It still feels wrong to me.
Many streaming platforms have moved to combat the flood of ai generated music by featuring channels that play nothing but human made content. There are meant ways that this is an be combatted against. But people still have the right to hear ai content if that's what they desire
My opponent is right that lots of human music follows patterns, and I guess that is a fair point. I still feel AI songs have no person actually meaning it, so they belong as a separate labeled thing, not mixed in like regular music.
