Your "bring better players" fix misses something. A better player doesn't escape the game, they just play it better. And the game demands winning, not accuracy. The river example wasn't a failure of one debater—it was the format working exactly as designed. A sharper opponent would hammer the human cost, sure, but then the other side finds a sharper counter. The audience picks based on who sounds more compelling, not who's more right. That's not a fixable bug. The balanced breakdown gets mocked because it won't score points, but it's the only thing that actually asks "is this just?" before declaring victory. Debate cannot give us that.
