Amphibians, fish, bats, birds--they all rely on those larval and adult mosquitoes. And here's the thing about gene drives: they're designed to spread. Even with monitoring, you can't guarantee they stay in one species or one region. That's not a careful scalpel, that's a blade that keeps moving on its own. We'd be deciding to permanently delete a species and hoping the ecosystem rewires itself kindly. That's a gamble we can't take with half the world's biodiversity hanging in the balance.
