Imagine an AI given only opioid manufacturers' published studies and press releases. It would likely report that addiction risk was low and pain relief proven. A historian reads the same archive alongside internal memos, court depositions, and prescribing data and shows the evidence base was engineered. That's source criticism, not retrieval. My opponent praises reproducibility, but two researchers running the same biased corpus reproducibly still get a biased answer. I'd say AI is a powerful search tool for history, but it can't yet judge motive, silence, and structural power, which is where the hardest historical and medical questions live.
