Picture a block where everyone agrees a crosswalk would save lives. They can volunteer, petition, even raise some money. But someone still has to approve the permit, fund the paint, and decide which blocks get priority. My opponent calls politics a bottleneck, and sometimes it is. But clear rules and voluntary cooperation don’t enforce or pay for themselves; they depend on decisions about power and money. Skipping that room doesn’t escape bargaining, it just lets the loudest organized few bargain for you. That’s why I’m for taking politics seriously, flaws and all.
