How many teams really can hire FP devs quickly? That's my gut thing. It feels like a niche skill, and most places just need people who can ship. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my worry.
Fair enough, my opponent's elegance point makes sense. But my gut still says mainstream means easy to hire and ship. A lot of teams just want working code fast, not a new mindset to learn. I can't really argue past that.
functional programming already died in the 90s when object oriented programming came. with it classes came and encapsulation and abstraction gave u better security and code reusability than functional programming
Surprising fact, most software is basically loops and ifs, and that works fine. My opponent makes a fair point about classes, and I honestly cannot argue past it. My gut just says mainstream needs easy hiring, and that still feels niche to me.
object oriented programming isnt a "new mindset" it hardly takes someone 6 months to get the grasp of it.and what do u mean by your "gut" says ? this is a debate not an intuition competition, you cant even argue against me what is this a joke ?
My strongest worry is still hiring. Okay, maybe my opponent is right that classes aren't a huge mindset shift. But mainstream to me means an ordinary team can post a job and get plenty of people who know it. FP still doesn't feel like that.
