A commuter in 2040 can have electric buses, congestion pricing, and apartments near work. If that were false, then we'd have to believe cities will ignore falling solar costs, smarter grids, and zoning reform all at once. That's not a prediction, it's a fantasy of stagnation. So I'm for the near future city.

Robust cities keep dumb fallbacks: cash, paper, streets people can walk, humans who can act without an app. So no, I'm against optimizing a city like a startup.
