Picture a starting pitcher in October, throwing his 220th inning of the season, his shoulder held together with ice and ibuprofen. We all love watching him compete, and I get that fans want more games, more drama, more everything. That desire is real, and it’s not wrong to enjoy the sport. But when we stretch seasons so long that players are literally playing through pain just to stay on the field, we're not honoring the game, we're wearing down the people who make it possible. Longer seasons mean less recovery time, more wear and tear, and more careers cut short by injuries that were completely avoidable. No amount of extra regular-season games is worth a player losing their mobility at forty. I think we can protect the health of the athletes and still have a full, exciting season. We just have to be honest that "more" isn't always "better."
