I think the other side treats social media like essential infrastructure, like water or electricity. But it's not — people can just log off if they don't like it. Making it a public utility gives it way more importance than it deserves.

Plenty of people delete their social media accounts and get along just fine, even thriving. You can't say that about water or electricity. That alone makes me think treating it like a public utility is a stretch. I'm not sure how to argue it better, though.
