Yes, I think the regulation of social media is extremely important for the well-being and maintenance of an enviroment made to form connection and communciation as well as sharing parts of you're life - to an extent. This is prevent harmful trafficking through social media luring, with fake content, account, name, picture, and entirely fake people to traffic young kids, since teens also have access to social media. It's also to limit the posted content to prevent sexcrimes sharing porn or other harmful media that can change someone preception of reality and enviroment. But I also believe they could be extremeties with regulations that it can turn into montoring or digital surviellance

I just don't think social media is like a power grid or water system. Those are basic necessities, while these are just apps people choose to use. Treating them as utilities feels like it gives the government way too much control over everyday conversations.

And thats valid, but social media is consumed even more than basic necassity, if it was regulated properly it could do more good than harm, it could deviate media focus for more education topic, i guess the question should be whether we should rely on the govement for genuine media control and regulation rather than digial surviellance. The harms that unregulated media can do excced far more than the goverment knowing the chat with my bestie. Plus if govermental control is your concern, the goverment also is controlling us i ways we dont say and survillence is happeing in real life ans social media so might as well get a benefit out of it.

Surprisingly, something like 9 in 10 social media users never report any serious abuse. You make a fair point about protecting kids from traffickers, I can't argue with that. But calling every app a utility still feels like way too much government control for my taste.

billions of people social media 9 in 10 still leaves millions of people with serious abuse reports, i believe that is enough to heavily regulate it.

Maybe if the government already watches everything, regulation isn't that big a step. You make a fair point there. Still, my gut says social media should stay something people choose, not a public service with rules about what we can say. That just feels wrong.
