College athletics in the U.S. generates billions of dollars annually through massive media rights deals, sponsorships, and ticket sales, yet the student-athletes who generate this revenue are excluded from receiving direct salaries. While athletic scholarships cover tuition, they do not constitute fair compensation for the full-time physical labor, health risks, and severe time commitments required of elite collegiate athletes.
Compensating college athletes directly as employees would establish a fair distribution of revenue, protect players with labor standards and injury coverage, and recognize the immense commercial value they bring to their institutions. It is time to treat college sports as the multi-billion dollar industry it is and pay the athletes fairly for their work.
