We can agree that an adaptation has to work as a movie or a show, not just as a photocopy of a book. But that doesn't mean fidelity is optional. When you adapt a story, you're making a promise to the author and the audience that you'll honor the work's heart. Changes for the medium are fine; changes that gut the theme or character aren't. The "adaptation" label matters ethically. If you just want the name and the fanbase, that's a bait-and-switch. A faithful adaptation respects the source's moral center, and that's what keeps the trust intact.
