Vegeta across Dragon Ball is indirectly shown to be more talented than Goku. To support my FOR claim, it is important to note that Vegeta awakened Super Saiyan by desire and willpower alone compared to Goku who didn't have intention and randomly awakened it via fury, this shows Vegeta has more control over himself compared to Goku. Second, whenever Goku has had to train it has always been with the help of a mentor, a system, or a specific multiplier and a lot of ingenuity to get the level up. Vegeta has only used the Gravity Chamber for his means and for the most of DBZ he hasn't had external help. Thus I argue it is astonishing he even figured anything out. Third, in GT Vegeta and Goku have two different SSJ4's. Vegeta is stated to be low potential, but many fans and watchers of that Dragon Ball misinterpret it as Vegeta being weaker. In reality it means that Vegeta has more raw power than Goku as potential is an open ceiling not a verdict of literal strength.

I always thought Goku picks up new techniques crazy fast, like someone seeing a move once and just doing it. That seems like talent to me. Maybe Vegeta trains harder, but Goku still learns quicker, and I can't really explain why.

Goku picking up moves extremely fast is simply a feat to his intelligence which doesn't make him talented it just helps him learn better. This also explains why Goku is willing to be humble despite his nature and learn from others regardless of who they are. On the contrary Vegeta learned a lot of things on his own, which is innate talent. Vegeta was stated to also have a higher power level than Goku when he was a baby.

I guess that's fair about Vegeta doing it alone, honestly I don't know how to argue that. I just feel talent is more about how fast you catch on, and Goku seems to pick stuff up almost instantly, even if he had teachers. That's all I've got.

No, talent isn't about how fast you catch on? Talent is about genetic disposition. Goku's strength was his forced humbleness which allowed him to learn, meanwhile Vegeta had a flaw of arrogance yet still kept up with Goku. Lets not also forget in the original Dragon Ball Goku had to train with King Kai and use a large multiplier of Kaioken to fight BASE Vegeta and even then Vegeta didn't die.

Picture two people trying a new move: one copies it after seeing it once, the other grinds for months. That's Goku to me. Sure, Vegeta figuring things out alone is fair and impressive, I can't counter that. I still think catching on fast is talent.

To be honest the Kamehameha which is his only instant of copying isnt that of a complex beam. Everything else Goku had to work for. On the contrary Vegeta has only original moves, is that not talent?

Goku doesn't get new moves instantly, we're shown for Namek Goku using the Gravity Chamber. For Cell, in their fight we see Goku struggling with Mastered Super Saiyan. Even with his iconic instant transmission he stated he had to learn from the Yardatians. Meanwhile Vegeta's entire arsenal is self-created.

I think you're wrong that talent is just genetic disposition. To me it's how quick someone catches on, and Goku just seems to get moves fast. Sure, Vegeta making original moves is fair, maybe that's talent too. I can't really argue it, that's just my gut.
