I think lawmakers should be barred from trading individual stocks because think of this. They are lawmakers. If they want to make a law against the firm which they do not have any share in, then they can simply pass regulations in the industry in which the opposing firms are. And that can lead to malpractices and bias towards one industry and that can basically cause the death of a free market, a free economy where everyone enjoys benefit, where there is consumer rights. Because then there will be a type of oligopoly where only a small bunch of firms in which lawmakers have invested, they only get profit and other firms are just shunned away without any profit, without any competitive advantage.
