Yuki Tsunoda would be a definition of a what-if. He carried Racing Bulls from 2023-2025 after Pierre Gasly stepped down. His most underrated year was honestly 2023, despite the AlphaTarui being extremely uncompetitive he pulled numerous P11s and P10s.

Tsunoda's speed gets noticed, but so do the weekends where he's nowhere, and that's the fair read: a quick midfield driver who hasn't shown the consistency or race craft to be more. Imagine a crop with a few great ears but patchy yield; you don't call it underrated, you call it unreliable. The other side may point to flashes of pace, and fair enough, they exist. But flashes aren't a season, and reputation should follow the whole harvest, not the best day.

This is where I think you are wrong. Yuki Tsunodas large inconsistencies were mainly in his rookie year and the year that followed. During his rookie year he was outscored by Pierre Gasly 110-59 and largely beaten during H2H. However, during 2023 and forward he was 100 percent consistent. You can't say he is inconsistent when he managed to pull mulitple P11s and P10s durign the teams worst year, the AlphaTauri was largely uncompetitve similar to Aston Martins current situation. However, Yuki maanged to score 17 points by the end and managed to beat every single teammate including Devries, riccardio and lawson.

A farmer sizing up a tractor doesn't call it underrated because it starts every morning and pulls a light trailer; that's the job. Same with Tsunoda: dragging an uncompetitive AlphaTauri to P10 and P11 is respectable, and the other side is right that it's easy to overlook. But respectable midfield points aren't hidden greatness. Underrated means the results clearly beat the reputation, and his reputation already includes those drives plus the quiet weekends. A driver who's quick but inconsistent isn't underrated, just not yet complete. That's the whole harvest.

Well in the sport of Formula 1 you can never really tell who is underrated and who isn't because of their machinery. Mick Schumacher could have been an elite driver but he was constantly limited by his machinery and team. And I think your Farmer analogy doesn't relate because you can't say that what Yuki Tsunoda did was just a "light trailer". During Sao paulo 2024, the reason why Yuki I think is considered underrated is because of this qualifying and race. When the conditions made it so that almost all tghe machinery was brough to a performance level of zero, he was shown to be able to actually compete in the front row and outqualifying his teammate Lawson and during the race was on pace for a podium until Racing Bulls pitted him right before the red flag.

Fair enough that he ironed out the rookie mistakes and beat his teammates. That's real progress, and I won't pretend otherwise. But that's my point: he became a solid, reliable midfield driver, and that's pretty much how he's rated. Underrated would mean people think he's worse than that. Beating De Vries, a returning Ricciardo, and a stand-in Lawson is useful, but it doesn't prove hidden greatness. A farmhand who shows up every day and outworks the seasonal hires is valuable, but you don't call him underrated for not running the farm.

Yeah that was my point, He was a good solid underated reliable midfield driver. Being underrated doesn't mean you have too be the next Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. Pierre Gasly for example is underrated not because hes a generational talent because hes a good driver who brings solid results on the table when the machienry is there.

My opponent keeps pointing to Sao Paulo, and fair enough, that was a great weekend. But one chaotic wet race is like a lucky harvest day after a patchy season, not proof the whole field is misjudged. The machinery argument cuts both ways too: if you can't judge drivers because of cars, a single standout result can't settle it either. His reputation already includes the flashes and the solid midfield drives. That makes him properly rated, not underrated.

His Reputation is fluctated to a "hes a bad driver". This is mainly because of his 2025 season where he performed horrible scoring only 33 points comapred to max who scored 421, but this is because of the notorius second redbull seat who claimed the victims of Liam Lawson, Sergio Perez, and etc. And the fact your undermining Tsunoda is the reason I believe he is underrated, simply accrediting his achievement of scoring P3 in qualifying in a lowermidfield racing bulls by jsut saying "one chaotic wet race is like a lucky harvest day". Your basically implying his drive was from luck and not skill and therefore I believe hes underrated.

Here's a stat that gets overlooked: across his first four full seasons, Tsunoda finished 14th, 17th, 14th and 12th in the championship. That's not a hidden star being misjudged; that's a midfield driver landing about where the car belongs. The other side now says underrated just means a solid, reliable midfielder, but that waters the word down until everyone's underrated. Gasly has a win and podiums, so his case is different. One great wet weekend in Sao Paulo is a highlight, not a season. He's rated fairly: quick, useful, not complete.
