Haven't we already seen this play out though? You say reboots fund original projects, but look at the actual numbers. Studios are gambling less on new ideas every year. They're not taking the profits from The Batman and greenlighting weird indie sci-fi—they're just making more Batmen.
And yeah, some remakes improve on originals. The Thing, sure. But for every good reboot, there's ten forgettable ones that just clog up the release calendar. That's not gatekeeping, that's just wanting better use of screen time and talent.
I get that new audiences deserve access to old stories. But streaming already solves that problem. Kids can watch the original Total Recall right now on their phones. They don't need a remake to discover it.
Sometimes the best way to honor a classic is to let it stand on its own. Let Hollywood take more risks instead of recycling the same IPs until they're dust.
