Is universal basic income good policy?

I believe universal is bad due to the fact people will slack off knowing they're going to get paid for doing absolutely nothing this means we have less workers the support and economy

I heard something like most people would just spend the money on everyday stuff, not start businesses or get jobs. I guess giving everyone free money would just make rent and groceries more expensive. I'm not really sure, but it feels wrong somehow.
