A student types an essay prompt into a chatbot, gets a tidy answer, and a week later can't explain a word of it. My opponent says AI is helpful, and sure, it saves time on drafts and summaries. But helpful should mean it leaves you better off, not more dependent and less able to check the work. A lot of these tools give confident answers without showing their sources, so the convenience quietly outsources judgment. That's my case: useful in moments, but not genuinely helpful in the way the other side claims.
