The other side's own framing makes my case: if an album now has to justify itself as more than disconnected singles, its default cultural role has already shifted. Cohesive albums still exist, sure, but exceptions show the form is no longer the norm. A format stays artistically alive through how most people actually listen, and most listening now skips, shuffles, and abandons anything that doesn't instantly please. That doesn't mean albums are gone; it means sequencing and patience have become optional, and optional is a weak foundation for an art form.
