college athletes should be paid for the following reasons: college athletes essentially work for their colleges, providing them with millions of dollars in revenue. think of march madness. it makes the NCAA an insane amount of money from people who watch them. college athletes also have very extreme schedules, such as for training and matches. not paying them simply doesn't allow them to incentivize playing and making all their sacrifices.

Picture a freshman basketball player at a big state school. Full ride scholarship, free housing, meal plan, access to elite trainers, and a degree that could be worth six figures. Now tell me why he needs a paycheck on top of that. College sports already give athletes a massive head start over the rest of us. My roommate worked two jobs to pay for tuition while the football team got tutors and priority registration. The argument that they're being exploited falls flat when you consider the free education, room and board, and national exposure that can lead to pro contracts. If we start paying players, where does it stop? Next thing you know, top recruits are bidding wars, smaller schools get priced out, and the whole amateur model collapses. College is supposed to be about getting an education, not running a minor league system. Let's not pretend a full scholarship isn't already serious compensation.
