I just don't see how we could pay for UBI without cutting other important programs. And if everyone gets free money, some people might stop working, and that could hurt things. But honestly, I'm not sure I have the full picture.

Even with automation protection, someone who really needs housing or disability support could lose those if UBI replaces them. That payout alone would probably mean cutting programs that do more good. I get your point, but I still worry the tradeoff is too risky.

But the thing is, why would UBI be a replacement and not an addition? I get it could get expensive, but if we give it to only those who really need it in the end it won't cost that much

Helping disabled people is a fair point, but the practical issue is that UBI gives money to everyone, including rich people. That makes it insanely expensive, so we'd likely cut targeted support anyway. And that support often does more for people who really need it. I just don't trust that tradeoff.
