We live in an era where the defining challenges of our time—from climate change and global pandemics to economic instability and transnational conflict—do not stop at borders. They do not ask for a passport, and they cannot be defeated by a single nation working in isolation.
To argue that countries should prioritize national interest over global interest is to cling to an outdated, short-sighted illusion: the idea that a nation can thrive in a burning world.
Our opposition will tell you that a government’s primary duty is to its own citizens. But in an interconnected world, protecting global interests is the highest form of national interest.
When a nation hoards resources, ignores global climate targets, or undermines international law to secure a short-term national win, it creates a volatile, fractured world. And in a fractured world, no nation stays secure for long. National sovereignty without global cooperation is not protection—it is isolation, and ultimately, self-sabotage.
Today, my team will prove three fundamental truths:
Interdependence is absolute: Modern global crises are systemic. A hyper-focused national approach guarantees collective failure on issues like climate, global health, and financial stability.
Global stability guarantees national security: Multilateralism, international law, and shared ethics create a predictable environment where all nations can prosper safely.
Moral and global duty: As global citizens, prioritizing hyper-nationalism breeds zero-sum thinking, conflict, and economic hostility, replacing international cooperation with international chaos.
We cannot build a safe home inside a collapsing building. For the sake of long-term security, shared prosperity, and human progress, we strongly urge a vote against this motion.
