The other side treats citizenship checks as a barrier, but that gets the causality backwards. Voting is a system, and every eligibility rule needs a verification loop. Otherwise errors compound. If a noncitizen votes, even rarely, it can cancel a valid ballot and erode trust, which then fuels tighter restrictions that actually do suppress people. A clean check at registration, with automatic verification and a cure process, is the least harmful feedback point. My opponent's fears about burden are real, but we can design checks to be fast, free, and accurate, not a poll-tax style obstacle. That's stronger.
