I believe that embryo editing should be banned, or at least heavily federally regulated. If it isn't, then doctors who aren't properly trained could alter wrong genes,making the results unpredictable. If this happens to a reproductive system, it can affect the next generations. Not only can future kids not consent to that, but also that causes an irreversable change to the future population

If we allow embryo editing, we could stop some really awful diseases before a child even has to suffer. That seems worth it to me. I know there are risks, but the chance to prevent pain feels like a good reason to try.

diseases are necessary part of earth. they keep out population in check. We've already seen the negative results of overpopulation in places like china. Preventing diseases is not only going to help that problem grow, but also has other methods to do so. Take cancer as an example. There are many ways to treat it that don't include gene editing

You make a fair point about doctors making mistakes and future kids not consenting. I can't really argue with that. But I still feel like stopping terrible diseases is worth trying, even if we have to be careful about it.

but this could still have unexpected results. Even the most careful doctor makes mistakes. When we are dealing with something as sensitive as genetics, a small mistake can be catastrophic. It's human nature to make mistakes. Nobody can live their life without making a mistake. I dont believe it's worth the risk

You're wrong that diseases are necessary to keep population in check. That's a pretty cold way to look at it, and suffering isn't worth that. I guess other treatments exist, but they don't always work for everyone. I still think trying to prevent diseases is worth it, even if I can't fully argue why.
