Look, I get the skepticism. I really do. The hype, the jpegs selling for millions, the carbon footprint concerns — none of that is pretty. But calling the whole thing a scam misses the point entirely.
Art has always been about more than the physical object. We pay for meaning, for provenance, for community. NFTs are just a new way to establish that. They let digital artists finally claim ownership in a world that's been ripping them off for decades.
Crypto too — it's messy right now, sure. But it's also giving people in unstable economies a lifeline. It's funding artists who'd never get gallery shows. It's creating new ways to build communities around shared interests.
Scams exist in every industry. That doesn't make the whole thing a scam. You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
