Honestly, I think it's mostly much ado about nothing. Plenty of people own stocks, and lawmakers are people too, so maybe it just looks bad without really being corruption. I don't have a big argument beyond that gut feeling.

The other side's point doesn't really touch on stocks at all, so I'm not sure how to answer it. Maybe owning stocks is just normal and the suspicion is overblown. I can't really back that up though. It just feels like people read too much into it.
