A Gallup poll finds about 70 percent of Americans want abortion legal only in the first trimester or with real limits, so even most people uneasy with my position still reject the absolute version the other side is defending. That matters. My opponent says bodily autonomy outweighs the moral status of the unborn, but if that were truly absolute, no limits would ever be justified, and almost nobody believes that. Once you concede a line exists somewhere, the debate is no longer whether there's a line, but where it belongs. That's the argument I'm happy to have, and it's one the other side can't avoid.
