Facebook removed about 6.5 billion fake accounts in a single year. If anonymity is the internet's seatbelt, that's six billion seatbelts, most of them worn by bots. My opponent says a verified name just hands bullies a target, and the victim's name is the real risk there. But if that were true, then the mask protects the harasser exactly as well as the survivor, same tool, same cover. The other side says verification is a tool we already have. Exactly. So require it, keep the pseudonym public, and let the blank accounts vanish. Accountability needs a real person behind the account, not a public name on it. Anonymous accounts erase that person entirely.
