Look at Paula Radcliffe's 2:15:25 marathon record from 2003. It stood for twenty years through the introduction of Nike Vaporflys and every other super shoe, until Tigst Assefa finally broke it in 2023 in Berlin. That's a long stretch, and even then it took an exceptional runner in near-perfect conditions. Marathon records have always improved steadily, driven by training, nutrition, and pacing strategies. Super shoes haven't caused sudden collapses of old marks, and they're available to everyone on the starting line. That's not ruining records, that's just sport .
