I believe studios should be allowed to use AI to finish works left incomplete by deceased artists, as long as they do so ethically and transparently. When an artist dies before finishing a film, song, book, or other creative project, AI can help preserve the work instead of allowing it to disappear forever.
AI should not be used to completely replace an artist or create something they never intended. Instead, it can be used as a tool to complete material that already exists, following the artist's established style, ideas, and direction. Their family, estate, or rights holders should also have a say in whether AI is used.
We already use technology to restore old films, remaster recordings, and preserve historical works. AI can be another tool for preservation. The important question isn't simply whether AI is involved—it is whether it is being used responsibly and with respect for the original artist.
If AI can help audiences experience a work that otherwise would have remained unfinished, I believe it can be a valuable tool for preserving artistic history.
