They shouldn't be held on weekends, they should be held on whatever date is decided upon, with the option for weekend voting for those who are unavailable on said date. If we open more access to voting, we will get more votes and better results, and not everybody has time solely on the weekend. People have kids. I think an important distinction is that solely weekend voting does not fix the issue, but a system that works around individuals situations. For example, mail in voting exists, as highly controversial as it is in the states, it exists. Or maybe remove the problem altogether with online voting, once quantum communication channels catch up technologically. Imagine not having to leave your house, and to be able to have a spread of candidates and what they are for and against, right at your fingertips? While this solution is far, in the space between there needs to be more access for people to sign up for a day or date when they want, with as much of a spread in availability as possible

I think it is further important to mention that there should be legal protection for citizens to be able to leave work to vote. Businesses run the economy, the economy is managed by those voted in, why not use the economy to get better results by taking the strain and brain fatigue that comes with it into a nice break from work where your decision is on YOUR time, YOUR context, and YOUR decision. Nobody should be able to take that away from somebody if a nation is going to make voting such a hassle in the first place.

I think you're underestimating weekends as a whole. Imagine having to manage 5 kids while both adults have to book their time away school at a voting station. Children run on their schedule, and do not have the wherewithal to treat that space with respect. Now we could implement kid spaces in voting areas, but more complicated questions come from that and the clear answer is that putting it specifically on a weekend isn't great, so maybe instead of arbitrary days here and there a full week and a half is given for people to vote?
