Imagine a crewed mission to the lunar south pole. To keep people alive, engineers must solve closed loop life support, radiation shielding, autonomous repair, and precision landing. Those same breakthroughs feed into medical devices, clean water systems, and advanced manufacturing on Earth. A telescope is a magnificent instrument, but a narrower one. Its returns are mostly scientific. The other side will rightly praise Hubble and Webb, and I agree they matter. But crewed spaceflight builds durable capability, inspires a broad workforce, and anchors a commercial ecosystem. So no, telescopes are not the better investment overall.
