Animal suffering makes God's existence highly unlikely.

Round 1

Common theodicies we read propose ideals that are inapplicable to non-human animal suffering. Theodicies of the like of free will, greater goods, soul building and eternal life are inadequate in supposing justification for why the world would be this way under God as opposed to naturalist perspectives.

The other side gets wrong that all animal suffering must fit some hidden purpose we just can't see. To me, so much of it looks pointless and needless, and that's what makes a good God hard to believe in. I admit I'm not sure how to argue it beyond that gut feeling.
