Paying college athletes salaries sounds nice, but the practical consequence is that schools would have to find that money somewhere. It could mean cutting smaller sports or raising costs for regular students. I just feel like college sports are already a big business, and salaries would make it worse.
But isnt encouraging students and helping them find what they want to do by the right means, and giving them the platform and the right opportunities literally the job of colleges and plus nobody's telling them to spend hunders of dollars on salaries just enough to keep the students inspired to stay healthy,
My opponent says they should, and fair enough, maybe athletes deserve something. But imagine a school paying salaries and then dropping swimming or tennis to cover it. That just feels wrong to me, though I am not sure how to argue it better.
As i said before nobody's telling colleges to spend 100s of dollars on athletes just enough to make an impact, but i guess my opponent want swimming and tenis to be closed hence they thought of mentioning it twice
Paying salaries still feels wrong because it turns college sports into a job, and regular students could end up covering the cost. My opponent makes a fair point about opportunity, and I admit I am not sure how to argue back. It just feels like too much.
