Chemistry is everywhere around us, everything is composed of molecules, atoms and quarks. When we rip off surface we should see that essentially all molecules are chemical substances. From nature or not it is chemical substance which can trigger pathways in our brain which we don't really understand yet. Some not to clever people saying that natural substances are safer, of course cocaine is from plant growing in Columbia - pretty healthy stuff, Khat in Africa which harvest a lot of people, opioids which are international problem and lead to death of at least thousand of peoples. Natural psychedelic should be considered not less harmful than synthetic and should be under same control.

Mushroom cultivation can run on agricultural waste; industrial synthesis often can't. That's not scientifically invalid; it's applying ecological data to law. I m not saying mushrooms and psychodelics substances shouldn't be obtained from this type of ecological approach I can say more I m recommending it, however we are not considering allowing these substances only for professionals, doctors and medical reseerchers, but for all people which have some place and money to buy spores. It would lead to highter people which would try psychodelics substances. As we know psychodelics can increase the risk of certain severe psychiatric conditions. Therefore it would lead to astonishing health issues, people which suffer from mental diseases would fill the psychiatric hospitals. More people in hospitals more greenhouse gases production because medicine contribute to approximate 5% production of greenhouse gases so it actually less ecological to extemp these natural substances.

Exemption means no age limits, no mental health screening, and no dosage standard. When you increase unmonitored access across the general population, acute psychiatric events and emergency admissions inevitably rise.
You cannot isolate the "ecological input" of growing a mushroom from the real downstream medical and societal infrastructure required to deal with its misuse.
