I believe that college is not worth the cost because of the skyrocketing tuition costs, crippling student debt, and a growing disconnect between academic curricula and practical market demands. Traditional four-year degrees demand an unsuitable financial and opportunity cost, therefore forcing students to trade years of potential workforce experience and capital accumulation for a credential that often fails to deliver a reiable return on investment (ROI). Further exacerbating this issue is institutional priorities that fund niche, theoretical coursework and academic programs such as gender studies or specialized humanities, which offers weak employment outcomes and little direct utility in the broader job market. As employers increasingly prioritize hard, demonstable skills and practical experience over abstract academic theory, alternative pathways like trade schools, certifications, and direct workforce entry present a far more pragmatic and financially sound alternative.
