Yes. Gender and biological sex are two similar but very distinct concepts. Transgender women are absolutely valid to have their gender classified as a woman, as unlike biological sex which is primarily defined by sex chromosomes and other scientific factors, gender is rather defined by society and cultural values.

I guess I just think woman means being female from the start, and you can't really change that part of someone. I know that might sound simple, and maybe there's more to it, but my gut says trans women are still something different. That's about all I've got.

To me the question is not about social labels. Swocket makes a fair point that gender is separate, and I honestly do not know how to argue with that. I just feel woman is tied to being female, so trans women are something else.
