I think we all want healthy kids, that's not the debate. But once we start editing embryos, where do we stop? It turns human life into something we design, and that crosses a line we shouldn't be able to cross.

Even if it works perfectly, the practical problem is that only wealthy people would get access, so we'd end up with a society where the rich design their kids and everyone else just takes what they get. That's not evolution, that's a new kind of inequality. We shouldn't open that door.

Even if it's a great innovation, we're talking about making permanent changes to someone who never got a say in it. That's a big deal. No matter how clever the science gets, I don't think we should have that kind of power over another person's life.
