Think of the boom like a saturated circuit. When every summer slate is stacked with capes, each new release competes with the last, and marginal returns fall. The pattern is clear: opening weekends shrink, budgets climb, and cultural conversation has moved on. A genre can still produce hits without being a boom. The boom is over; what remains is a mature, cyclical market, not the default blockbuster engine it was. If my opponent points to one hit, that proves nothing about an entire cycle.

The most practical consequence of my position is that studios have stopped treating superhero films as the default tentpole. Slates are shrinking, budgets are tightening, and release dates are shifting. That is what the end of a boom looks like. My opponent says demand is just waiting for quality, but that argument explains every outcome: a hit proves the boom lives, a flop proves the film was bad. A genre can still produce hits without being a boom. We are now in a cyclical market, not the default engine.

The disagreement is about definitions. A boom is not "some films still succeed"; it is a period when adding more releases reliably grows total returns and dominates the calendar. That engine has stalled: slate counts are falling, budgets are tightening, and studios no longer greenlight capes by default. My opponent points to surviving billion-dollar franchises, but a mature market always keeps a few winners. That is consolidation, not a boom. If demand were merely waiting for quality, the burden is to show broad volume returning, not one hit. The boom is over; the genre remains.
