They've poured billions into R&D, and that benefits everyone who uses the web.
Sure, smaller competitors exist, but Google's resources let them experiment in ways others can't. DuckDuckGo and Bing are still around, and they innovate in their own niches. If Google were truly crushing innovation, we wouldn't see so many startups popping up around specialized search tools or alternative engines.
So yeah, Google's big. But big doesn't automatically mean bad for progress. Sometimes size just means they can afford to take risks and push things forward.
