Here's a question: if a song gets played a million times on Spotify, how is it fair that the artist might only see forty bucks from it? That's not even minimum wage for the work it took to create it. I get that streaming services have to cover costs and make a profit, but the payout per stream is so low that most artists can't survive on it. Labels and top stars make deals for better rates, but the average musician gets crumbs. Streaming might be convenient for listeners, but it's hard to call it fair when the people actually making the music are getting pennies while the platforms rake in billions.
