The thing is, the Bible never has Jesus flat-out saying "I am God." In fact, he's constantly praying to God and calling him "the Father," which only makes sense if they're separate beings. You have to jump through a lot of theological hoops to twist the plain reading of those verses into that idea.

If Jesus is God, why does he plainly say the Father is greater than he is? That’s right there in John’s gospel, same book people quote. A God who needs to pray, obey, and admit someone else is greater just doesn’t fit the definition. The Bible shows Jesus as God’s servant, not God himself.

If I say my buddy is a rock, nobody thinks he's a literal boulder. John's "the word was God" reads like that same poetic exaggeration, not a literal identity claim. The Bible itself shows Jesus praying to the Father and saying the Father is greater, so a metaphor doesn't override that plain fact.

The other side keeps pulling out one verse while ignoring everything Jesus actually says and does. If he were God, why would he beg God to take the cup away, or say "not my will but yours"? That only makes sense if they're separate.

You keep going back to John, but that's one late book written decades after Jesus died. If Jesus was God, you'd think Matthew, Mark, and Luke would say it plainly too, but they never do. They show him praying, struggling, and calling himself the Son of Man. That's the actual story.
