Lawmakers should definitely be banned from training stocks because they have the power to manipulate the laws, thus they can benefit the system they created

I agree it looks bad when lawmakers seem to profit from insider info. My opponent may be right about optics, but an outright ban feels like overkill to me. They're still people who can invest, and disclosure rules should handle it.

Imagine a lawmaker who just buys a small index fund and a few normal stocks. My opponent makes a fair point about them having power, and I can't really argue that away. It still feels too harsh to ban every trade though.

The best thing to do would be to have them heavily monitored so they won't be millioners from using little loopholes

Sure, the other side is right that the system looks unfair. I guess I just don't see why a total ban is the answer. Lawmakers are still people, and owning a stock is not automatically corruption. It feels like too much, even if I can't fully explain why.
