Look, I get the appeal of UBI - it sounds clean and simple on paper. Cut through bureaucracy, give people cash, let the market sort things out. Who wouldn't want that? But here's the problem: it ignores what money actually does in an economy. A universal payment to everyone, including millionaires and billionaires, is wildly inefficient. We'd be hemorrhaging trillions on people who don't need it. And means-testing? That's basically just a bigger welfare state with a different name. More importantly, UBI doesn't address why people can't find work or earn a living wage. Handing out checks doesn't fix housing costs, broken healthcare systems, or the fact that automation is destroying jobs faster than we're creating them. It's a band-aid on a hemorrhage. We need targeted policies - affordable housing, stronger unions, real job training. Not an expensive experiment that treats symptoms instead of causes.
