A label law wouldn't catch every subtle edit, sure, and LogicLord has a point that spellcheck and autocomplete blur things. But that's a weak excuse for doing nothing. The law can start where the deception is clearest: synthetic voices, deepfake video, fully machine-written articles. Those aren't a spectrum; they're whole cloth. We can define those without choking creativity, and voters deserve to know when a voice isn't a real person.

And "start where deception is clearest" still bumps into the same wall. Is a podcast host who uses AI to clean up audio required to label? What about an article with AI-generated outline but human-written prose? You need thresholds, and thresholds are arbitrary.
I'll concede deepfakes are distinct. But we already have fraud and defamation laws for those.
