Probably more good than harm, but not automatically. AI already speeds up medicine, science, and ordinary work, and those gains compound. The real risks are concentrated power, bad actors using it, and people trusting it where it is wrong. Those are governance problems, not a reason to treat the technology as net harmful.

Isn't it kind of like any new tool, where we mostly notice the bad stuff at first? I just feel like AI could help with boring tasks and let people focus on better things. My opponent might see it differently, but that's my gut.

It can take over judgment, jobs, and information at a scale older tools never reached, so the boring-task upside does not automatically outweigh deepfakes, concentrated power, and people trusting a system that is often confidently wrong.

Calling it a governance problem is not a dodge. Every powerful tool, from cars to the internet, spread before the rules caught up, and the useful parts still outweighed the mess. Hard to control is not the same as net harmful, and slowing the useful work does not make the hard parts easier to police.
