Yes, lawmakers should be banned from having individual stocks as this influences the way they are treated in the community. Just because an individual is a lawmaker, how individuals and how others treat them is going to be different. Because by the identity of being lawmakers, individuals want favors from them. In one way or another, those two will be treated in a different manner in comparison to other members.

We all agree lawmakers shouldn't profit from insider knowledge. But an outright ban could backfire. If serving means giving up stock trading entirely, only people who are already rich can afford the job. That shrinks the talent pool and hands more power to the wealthy. Instead, we could require real-time disclosure and blind trusts. That keeps conflicts visible without locking out everyday investors. My opponent's concern is fair, but a ban is a sledgehammer where a scalpel works better.

When we talk about lawmakers, we are talking about members of firemen, we are talking about ministers, such individuals with such titles when they are brought into power by their constituencies. Imagine doing a business in a constituent that what you do into power. First of all, what you get is that those people already like you, they are already in favor of you. And when you are conducting your business in such an environment, you are going to find yourself, even for this other person, when you are in the room, when you have conducted business in a trade manner that is not okay, a trade manner that is kind of a standard, they are going to treat you in a less constitutional manner in comparison to how they treat everybody else, because most people are aware of you, and they are not to say that in that constituency, you are more favorable in comparison to anybody else.

So why throw out the honest investor along with the bad actor? My opponent is right that being a lawmaker changes how people treat you, and that's a real problem worth solving. But that favor-seeking happens whether a lawmaker owns stocks or not. The fix is transparency, blind trusts, and real penalties for trading on inside info, not a blanket ban. And an outright ban quietly says only the already-wealthy can serve, which narrows who gets a seat at the table. That's the opposite of cleaning things up. We can fix the conflict without closing the door.

At the same area on which transparency whether it's transparency about credibility, when you look at the individuals who are lawmaker, just by the identity of themselves being lawmakers and members of federalism, it does not stop people to prevent individuals from the society from fearing them in favor of them. What we know is that regardless of whether the member of the government or the lawmaker is corrupt or they are not corrupt, what is going to happen is that in as much as there is going to be transparent, but at some case, at one place, there is going to be a misconduct in their way of thinking. What my opponent gets wrong is thinking a ban removes the advantage. It doesn't. A lawmaker can still award favors, leak hints, or get steered into a sweetheart deal without owning a single share. The conflict is influence, not stock tickers. I'd rather target that with blind trusts, real-time disclosure, and tough penalties. That way an honest teacher or nurse can still serve and invest, while bad actors get caught. A ban just reserves office for the already rich, which makes the favor economy worse, not better.
