I live in Norway, where EV subsidies are so generous that electric cars now make up over 80% of new sales. Sounds like a win, right? Except the government lost billions in tax revenue, and the environmental payoff is tiny. EVs still produce emissions during manufacturing, and the electricity they run on often comes from fossil fuels. Norway's grid is mostly hydro, so that works there. But in Poland or China, where coal dominates, an EV is barely cleaner than a gas car. We’re subsidizing expensive toys for the wealthy while ignoring bigger climate wins. Why not spend that money on public transit, bike lanes, or actually cleaning up the grid? That would cut emissions for everyone, not just people who can afford a $50,000 car.
