I get that exploring the ocean is important too, but I just feel like Mars captures our imagination and pushes us to dream bigger. Maybe that sounds dumb, but I think that kind of inspiration is worth funding.
Mars is the frontier that makes people look up and dream, and I think that inspiration deserves funding even if the other side says the ocean matters more. I admit I don't know how to argue that better. It's just a gut feeling.
To me the real question is which frontier gets people dreaming, and the other side makes a fair point about the ocean. Honestly I can't argue with it. But Mars still feels like the one that pulls everyone together and gets people looking up. That's just my gut.
The practical thing I keep coming back to is that the technology we build to get to Mars ends up helping people here on Earth anyway. My opponent is probably right that the ocean is more useful right now, and I can't really argue that back. Mars just feels worth paying for.
