College athletes should be paid directly by universities because they put in a huge amount of time, effort, and commitment while helping their schools make money and gain recognition. Many athletes spend hours every day practicing, traveling, competing, and attending classes, leaving them with little time for a regular job. Universities can generate significant revenue from sports through ticket sales, television deals, merchandise, and sponsorships, so the athletes who help create that value should receive a fair share. Paying athletes would also recognize their hard work and help cover everyday expenses such as food, transportation, and housing. College athletes are students, but they are also the people performing at the center of a major sports business, so they deserve to be compensated for their contributions.
